Helping Nonprofits Take Their Projects to the Next Level
Supporting Youth Civic Engagement
Four million young people turn 18 every year in the United States. We’re excited to be partnering with a nonpartisan, youth-led organization that pre-registers high school students across the country. In America’s 250th anniversary year, we are offering this team technical assistance and strategic advice in support of an inspired civics and democracy project: 125 fellows conducting a total of 250 high school registration drives and over a hundred student service projects across more than two dozen states.
Promoting Physical and Mental Health
Many urban communities are suffering from food deserts that make it difficult for families to access good nutrition. Across a number of jurisdictions, The Sarbanes Center is identifying projects that can connect educational organizations, food banks, and urban farming initiatives in ways that enhance access to nutritional options and contribute to improved physical and mental health outcomes. We are particularly motivated by the opportunity to develop unique models of collaboration with school-based health centers.
Advancing Environmental Stewardship
In Baltimore, we are collaborating with a community group seeking to advance a rails-to-trails initiative. The project aims to transform underutilized infrastructure into an accessible greenway, while engaging public and private partners to make the effort scalable and replicable. We are also connecting to initiatives that understand the power of nature as a vibrant outdoor classroom – a space that educates the whole person and offers inspiration to a new generation of environmental stewards.
